Gray Whale in Puerto Chale, La Paz (Private Tour)

La Paz

From USD 298/person

Description

Gray whales make one of the longest migrations ever recorded of any mammal. Annually, they travel between 15,000 and 20,000 kilometers from their feeding fields in the Arctic, to the warm waters on the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula.

In late fall, gray whales begin their journey to the south where they will spend the winter and early spring to give birth and breed in three coastal lagoons in the state of Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, Puerto Chale borders Magdalena Bay, an area where hundreds of gray whales are concentrated, which gave rise to other observation centers more than two decades ago such as Puerto Adolfo López Mateos and Puerto San Carlos, known internationally.

Puerto Chale, the only gray whale sighting spot in the municipality of La Paz, receives hundreds of cetacean specimens year after year in winter season.

This small fishing port is considered one of the best spots to observe the Gray Whale. In relation to other sighting points, this is a place where you can have a more private meeting since it is a virgin place in the process of tourist development, where you will find yourselves looking for the gray whale in front of Margarita Island and Crescent Island in Bahía Almejas.

The tour is in roofed little boats with captains who are local fishermen that know the Bay intimately.

Thanks to conservation efforts in the Bay, in which the fishermen themselves operate these ecotourism practices, it seems that the whales feel very comfortable and curious to interact a lot with people.

On many occasions they directly approach the boats to rub against them and even allow people to touch and hug them. It is common for an adult mother whale to introduce us to her calf. For this to happen it is important that they feel comfortable, at peace and that we are there to respect and admire their presence.

It will be a unique and wonderful feeling to be able to look into the eyes and connect with these beautiful mammals.

These are conservation-oriented marine life encounter expeditions. Everything is possible in these expeditions, if you are lucky you will have encounters with schools of dolphins, sea lions and much more.

A 100% recommended experience for nature lovers.

Our family of four (kids 9 & 11) had a great wonderful experience snorkeling with GLUUP in Cabo Pulmo.

My experience has been very positive—simply the best dives of my life. The treatment from the staff (sales team, guides, captains, etc.) was excellent, and I’m very happy. I would definitely do it again without hesitation.
