Mobula Rays and Cetaceans Expedition In La Ventana

La Ventana

From USD 1232/person

Description

Expedition to La Ventana, Baja California Sur.

These trips on May and June are predominantly focused on snorkeling and freediving. These are adventurous trips to search in the open sea for mobulas, orcas, whales, whalesharks, sea lions and whatever appears.

In the Sea of Cortez, thousands of mobula rays migrate every year. The exact reason for this annual gathering is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to feeding and reproductive activities.

The migration of mobula rays in the Sea of Cortez has become an important ecotourism attraction, with many tour operators offering snorkeling and diving trips to witness these majestic creatures up close. However, it is important to ensure that tourism activities are carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner, to avoid disturbing the natural behavior of the rays or damaging their habitats.

Mobula rays are a type of ray that are known for their acrobatic jumps out of the water, making them a popular attraction for tourists and researchers alike.

During this time, lucky visitors can witness these creatures leaping out of the water in their hundreds, performing their acrobatic moves in an impressive display of grace and agility. Snorkeling and diving amongst the vast schools of Mobula Rays is an experience like no other, as the rays glide effortlessly through the water in perfect unison.

In recent years, there have been many sightings of killer whales feeding on mobulas on Isla Cerralvo, south of La Paz and we hope to find them. These incredible predators have been observed working together to hunt and corral the mobulas, using their intelligence and strength to overwhelm and capture their prey.

Each day at sea (approximately 6 hours) will consist of looking for as much action as possible in open water with the species that we can find along the way, what we call a Marine Safari.

Get ready for this expedition and keep your eyes wide open, with your fins and mask on, as every second at sea, unexpected moments may occur.

Diving instructions and the location itself in Cozumel were amazing. We've spent an hour discussing our dive on shore and once we gotten underwater and passed safety checks, there was a pure enjoyment of dive for next ~hour or so. Daniel Lomonaco, if you're reading this, just know that you're so much better than an average instructor.

Very attentive and excellent instructors. I was able to leave my dog in their care while we went on the boat.
