Mobula Rays Expedition In La Ventana
These expeditions with Gluup to La Ventana, Baja California Sur, are about to begin and we are all excited. Our trips in May and June focuses predominantly on snorkeling and freediving. These will be adventure trips to search in the open sea for mobulas, orcas, whales, whale sharks, sea lions, and everything else that appears.
In the Sea of Cortez, thousands of mobula rays migrate every year. The exact reason for this annual gathering is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to feeding and breeding activities.
The migration of mobula rays in the Sea of Cortez has become an important ecotourism attraction, and we want to be part of it. However, it is important to ensure that our tourism activities are carried out responsibly and sustainably, to avoid disturbing the natural behavior of the rays or damaging their habitats.
Mobula rays are a type of ray known for their acrobatic jumps out of the water, making them a popular attraction for both tourists and researchers.
During our time at sea, we can witness these creatures jumping out of the water by the hundreds, performing their acrobatic movements in an impressive display of grace and agility. Snorkeling and freediving among the Mobula rays is an experience like no other, as the rays glide effortlessly through the water in perfect unison.
In recent years, there have been many sightings of orcas feeding on mobulas, dolphins, and more in Isla Cerralvo, in front of La Ventana, and we hope to encounter them. These incredible predators have been observed working together to hunt and corral mobulas, using their intelligence and strength to overwhelm and capture their prey.
Each of our days at sea (approximately 6 hours) will consist of seeking out as much action as possible in open waters with the species we can find along the way, what we call a Marine Safari.
We are getting ready for this expedition with Gluup and will keep our eyes wide open, with our fins and goggles on as every second at sea, unexpected moments can happen.
