Gray Whales in Mexico From La Paz
If you are in La Paz, Baja California between the months of January and April, you cannot miss the chance of seeing the Gray Whales make one of the longest migrations recorded in any mammal. They travel between 15,000 and 20,000 kilometers from their feeding grounds in the Arctic, to the warm waters on the west coast of Baja California, where they have their offspring. At Gluup we have made the best selection of tours for this activity. You can go on this adventure on private groups composed of 5 or more people or shared if your group is smaller.
It is a 7 hours unforgettable adventure departing from La Paz, that will leave you speechless after seeing these beautiful mammals, which are between 12 and 15 meters long. The boat tour departs from Puerto Chale, a fishing town that is two hours away from La Paz. The austerity of this place has a unique charm due to its small population who only lives on regular fishing and from tours destined to the sighting of these magnificent creatures. Puerto Chale borders Bahía Magdalena, an area where hundreds of gray whales are concentrated, which gave rise to other observation centers more than two decades ago such as Puerto Adolfo López Mateos and Puerto San Carlos, known internationally. This small fishing port is considered one of the best spots to observe the Gray Whale. In relation to other sighting points, this is a place where you can have a more private meeting since it is a virgin place in the process of tourist development, where you will find yourself looking for the gray whale in front of Margarita Island and Crescent Island in "Bahía Almejas".
There are 2 ways to get to Puerto Chale. If you have a car you van make the journey on your own, but if you wish, through Gluup you can book the activity with round-trip transportation from La Paz.
Once you arrive to Puerto Chale, our operators will take you out to sea on the boat. After 30 minutes, you will begin to see your boat surrounded by these gigantic mammals.
On lucky days you will be able to see more than 50 whales around you accompanied by dolphins. It is an unbeatable experience that will fill your heart with joy. It is thanks to this ecotourism practice, that gray whales ceased to be in danger of extinction in 2010 and their population has increased by almost 40%.
If you make the journey to Puerto Chale, we recommend you bring something to eat because Puerto Chale does not offer many food options, in case of booking through Gluup, the tour includes sandwiches, food and drinks. Get ready to connect with nature and be filled with indescribable emotion when seeing that this species has recovered. Lets go SEA THE PLANET!
